I believe for me after what I have seen animal testing is my strongest hate!
I do think it is wrong to breed dangerous dogs and fireworks and all that but really animal testing effects every animal. I read that it is hard to find a species that has not been tortured in such ways.
I also think battery hens should be completely banned and all chickens should be free range. (the same applies to keeping any livestock in small and un-hummaine conditions!
But one of my biggest hates is to see animals (mainly pigs) being transported live! It is disgusting and people should consider the fear of the pig rather than they're taste buds! Thankyou

I am a persistent campaigner on the FIREWORK CAMPAIGN. This particular campaign should NOT be forgotten out of winter months ! Fireworks are on sale all the year round and can be bought and let off in July or November. Firewworks should be banned unless bought for an official display. They should not be on sale over the counter to just anyone, we must protect our animals from the stress and frightening experience they suffer at these stupid things.
I personally will NOT give up campaigning against fireworks 52 weeks of the year.

My son has just started training as a vet. As part of his course he has attended a pig farm. The conditions he described to me are nothing short of horrific downright cruelty. He cannot say anything because as a training vet they are warned to keep quiet, and he is in a catch 22 situation. He described terrably injured pigs being dragged out of a farm building and left to die a very slow and painful death. The RSPCA has a campaign to get better treatment for pigs. I cannot believe that the RSPCA doesn't know the extent of suffering, yet they have low profile, weak insipid campaigns about this with nice pictures of pigs. This is shameful.

forget the submarines because there is very litlle change that they had something to do with their deaths as if they did many would have been dead all over the place many times over for many years
HOWEVER THE IDEA AS I UNDERSTAND IS:
GIVE ANY ONE PERSON OR BODY OF PEOPLE (eg.RSPCA) OR ANY PEOPLES AND I WOULD INCLUDE CHILDREN OF 10 YEARS OF AGE UPWARDS THE RIGHT TO DEFEND NATURE IN COURT AGAINST ANYONE OR GROUPS OF PEOPLE OR EVEN THE GOVERNMENT!
YOU CAN TAKE SOMEONE OR THE COUNCIL TO COURT OVER A TREE OR A RIVER OR STREAM OR A DOLPHIN OR A WHOLE HABITAT and so on
IF ANYONE CAN ENGAGE A SOLICITOR AND HAVE A GOOD PLAUSIBLE CASE OVER ANY DAMAGE DONE UNJUSTLY TO ANY PART OF NATURE
SO BE IT !!!!

TIME FOR NEW FORWARD NEW LEGISLATION TO BE INTRODUCED ... The RSPCA CAN HELP AND TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
not long ago a few too many dolphins showed up dead on the shores of somewhere in Cornwall they were it appears victims of a submarine or two training in the area and thus misguiding them with the sonar sounds
whatever happened to those poor defenseless creatures in THEIR OWN HOME /THEIR OWN HABITAT was not and is not acceptable
would be nice if someone could take them to court for their murder and so make them responsible for the consequences of their acts...
national defense is of course of paramount importance but those subs could train in a artificial /man made enviroment or change the sonar as not to cause damage to our best friends in the sea and other creatures...
where there is a will there is always a way !
here is what the new constitution of Ecuador has to say:
1. Nature or Pachamama, where life is reproduced and exists, has the right to exist, persist, maintain and regenerate its vital cycles, structure, functions and its processes in evolution. Every person, people, community or nationality, will be able to demand the recognitions of rights for nature before the public organisms. The application and interpretation of these rights will follow the related principles established in the Constitution.
Article 2. Nature has the right to an integral restoration. This integral restoration is independent of the obligation on natural and juridical persons or the State to indemnify the people and the collectives that depend on the natural systems. In the cases of severe or permanent environmental impact, including the ones caused by the exploitation on non-renewable natural resources, the State will establish the most efficient mechanisms for the restoration, and will adopt the adequate measures to eliminate or mitigate the harmful environmental consequences.
Article 3. The State will motivate natural and juridical persons as well as collectives to protect nature; it will promote respect toward all the elements that form an ecosystem.
Article 4. The State will apply precaution and restriction measures in all the activities that can lead to the extinction of species, the destruction of the ecosystems or the permanent alteration of the natural cycles. The introduction of organisms and organic and inorganic material that can alter in a definitive way the national genetic patrimony is prohibited.
Article 5. The persons, people, communities and nationalities will have the right to benefit from the environment and form natural wealth that will allow well being. The environmental services are cannot be appropriated; its production, provision, use and exploitation, will be regulated by the State.

nett: no vets in your area then? Catch it and take it to the vet!! Tell them it's a stray, they may treat it cheaply - but in my view, if you've been feeding it for 5 years then it's your cat, your responsibility. Cats are like that! You cannot just leave it that is cruel and probably against the law!!

I can't believe how heartless some of these posts are! I am horrified at the idea of putting these dogs down because they have bitten a human OR dog, but I believe if it means more dogs being put down if they're bred, we should stop breeding them. And the ones who are here already? I THOUGHT that the RSPCA should create special homes for them, like a home for dogs, but this could mean bad conditions for the dogs because of lack of funding. So I've decided it would be the best idea to give each individual dog a loving home with families that have been interviewed especially, and with who they can be looked after properly, and trained for a better life ahead. Call me sentimental but I LOVE ANIMALS AND LOOK AFTER THEM PROPERLY! WAY TO GO RSPCA!!!
xSophiex
P.S. Sammyd, I know you meant the post about putting down dogs everytime they bit another well, but this is LIFE we're talking about here. The dogs life.

Dont close the zoos! The animals in the zoos dont release them! They wouldnt survive! They have been fed there food not have to hunt for it! Also zoos are increasing numbers in endangered animals! Just make sure the zoos look after there animals properly and make them have bigger enclosures etc..
I would make sure the MEPs properly inforce the animal protection law! Any one who abuses or doesn't look after there animals right get put into prison with at least two years in there!
Hope this helps!

Londiniumgaia - if you want fruit, veg and bread the exact way you want it, then grow your own and bake your own bread! That's what I do. I think you have gone off the subject of animal welfare a little. This is the RSPCA not Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Humans from Fruit Shapes.

Whats the point of voting or lobbying Ur MEP about animal welfare if they don't listen? They're all totally dissinterested, it's just a waste of time. Still might write to them again though...

I would like my MEP to ensure that EXISTING laws about cruelty to animals are properly enforced; to get rid of the DDA AND to make sure that the deed NOT the breed is punished BUT more importantly, that those who cause dogs to become vicious for use as a weapon are sent to prison and are banned from keeping any animal for life.

Anyone who reads my last post - I am NOT in favour of any breed specific bans (it could be a little confusing).

Hannah67 May 28, 2009 at 6:34 p.m.
Poppy - interesting. What evidence have you got that all mastiffs should be banned?
Sammyd - Why do you think GSD's are ok not to be banned? Is it because Poppy didn't mention it in her wish list? Yes a GSD is a working dog, as is a Rottweiler a working dog. So would it not be ok for Rottweilers to be saved? German Shepherds can inflict probably as much damage on human than Rottweiler. In the past ten years there have been about 10 deaths caused by GSD attacks. And what about the recent news story of the baby who was seriously maimed by a GSD in Malaga? And of course you can train a GSD to kill! Powerful dog + train to kill + very obedient dog = disaster.
And I agree with Sue - prosecuting dogs for using instincts? hmmm...
And you have not heard of dogs being killed in 'fights'? Are dog attacks not based on fighting then? And yes, Jack Russell terriers have killed, as has a Pomeranian (this dog killed a 6 week old baby girl).

We cannot put dogs in prison for being dangerous that is why the breed NOT the deed can be and should be banned. Worked with pit bulls. Of all the people ive met whos dogs have been almost dead or killed none were attacked by pit bulls.

Ive not heard of any dogs being killed in 'fights' Im talking about dangerous breeds that kill, be it dogs OR children. As a jack russel is an aggressive little ankle snapper im not sure it could be classed as dangerous. I cant imagine it having the strength to kill a dog and im sure I could get one off my dog but if im wrong there then yes of course we should stop breeding them too. They are incredibly hard to train but I have never considered them a dangerous breed myself. Maybe they could be

Sue May 28, 2009 at 11:07 a.m.
Okay Poppy and Sammy - suppose you actually got what you are calling for - who is going to do all this policing of dog ownership? Where is the money coming from? Why stop at the breeds you have mentioned? What about the dog I think will become the next weapon of choice if all these dogs go - the Presa Canario? What about Jack Russells - nasty little things that could easily kill a baby. Red Setters can be quite nasty and Great Danes. And your suggestion that a dog which kills another dog should be destroyed, so okay, what if the dog who is killed actually started the fight? Are we going to put dogs on trial and let a Judge decide guilt or innocence, I call that "Wuff" justice personally! Why? because for a dog to fight is normal behaviour for a dog. You can't criminalise a dog for behaving like a dog! If a non aggressive dog bit another dog in the right place, it could probably kill, and a big dog would be more likely to be able to kill a small dog just by virtue of its comparitive power, even though it may not be an aggressive dog. Do we kill people for killing dogs, and do we even kill people for killing other people? There is a school of thought which says we should, and I am one of them in favour of bringing back the death penalty for all offences of violence, but that isn't going to happen. You can't regulate normal behaviour, and for a dog, fighting, (which can always result in one dog coming off worse and even getting killed in the process), is normal behaviour. How ridiculous!! Do you actually understand ANYTHING about dogs? I have never heard such a lot of dog-hating drivel in my life - and on an animal welfare website for God's sake!

I also think the law should be changed on dog attacks on dogs. At the moment a dog can kill another dog and it doesnt get put down and the owner doesnt get prosecuted.A dogs life is worth nothing !! However if it bites a human it can be put down. I think the dangerous dogs wouldnt be so popular if they got put down every time they kill another dog.

I agree on a breeding ban . The breeds you have mentioned poppy I would agree with. I notice you have not mentioned german shepherds. Is this because you think they are a safe breed? I feel maybe some breeds such as the german shepherd should not be banned but ownership should be strictly regulated. The police find these dogs reliable. They are a working dog and not a fighting dog and can be trained in a way that we cannot train the desire to kill out of the staffie. In theory I agree there should be a register of dangerous breeds and we need more bans than the 4 we currently have. Also take these breeds away and our dogs and owners are going to have a much better quality of life. Also you are quite right the thugs will lose interest in dogs full stop if they dont look hard and be dangerous. Its something I would fully support. We dont NEED fighting breeds of dogs as pets . mans best friend shouldnt kill

At a guess Id say ALL mastiffs ,ALL pit breeds, Japanese Akita, Chow chow Rottweiler, Boxer, I appreciate what you are asking. It is time there was an official list in the uk. We all know there are really not THAT many inherently dangerous breeds. I dont agree with a ban on breeds that attack in the hands of thugs so if you are going to say if these breeds are banned and a thug turns a yorkie aggressive i wont be calling for a ban on yorkies !! truth is if we have no dangerous breeds for sale thugs wont be interested in dogs at all. which is also a plus

Stopping breeding of ALL dangerous breeds of dog and making existing dangerous dogs licenced and forced to be on a lead and mussled at all times until the breeds have been erradicated which should take around 15 years if policed properly
