The models and wags who humiliate themselves by wearing fur, and although they look glamorous, shouldn't feel it inside. How they can wear the coat without feeling guilty, I wonder .....
Ive never ever worn fur or had and thing made of animal fur and never want to its disquestingly gross and mean to animals im sure i wouldnt like to be skinned of my skin and be left as discusting bits. And i love animals so i would never ever wanna see them hurt, i love all animals all different kinds. Its not the looks or the size or the furryness, well its not there fault what they look like and they have the right to keep there fur, im saying it for the animals!!!
Personally i have no problem with wearing fur. (wait let me say my point) Origionally before civilisation when tribes were the main group of people, the hunts men would go out to the wild and kill an animal then bring it home. Eat it's meat, Keep its skin ... etc (use every part of it;s body) and most importantly would only kill one animal in order to keep the balance of nature. This type of killing i agree with. However nowadays, animals are breed and butchered just for their skin, the other body parts are just thrown away. CRUEL. IT MAKES ME FURIOUS.
I AM SO DISGUSTED AT PEOPLE THAT THINK IT'S OK TO WALK AROUND WEARING DEAD BEARS!!!! IT'S TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE!!! I can understand why people eat meat, but fur is one step too far over the line. ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS! THEY FEEL PAIN! Think about it- how would some stuck up, snobbish celebrity feel if a giant bear came up to her with a scalpel and skinned her so she was just a pile of blood and guts?!? She would scream, but nobody would hear- nobody would CARE! Nobody cares when animals cry out- so we must cry out for them! STOP FUR!!!
I have always been against fur, and am utterly shocked that whoever it is that seems to think they can make money out of the merciless torture of such beautiful creatures in the name of fashion has got such a rousing reception from the models and wags that wear their products! I used to be vegetarian but now soley eat 'happy' animal produce, free range meat.. eggs - including products made with free range ingredients, trust me it works wonders when you are walking down the cake aisle of some of the cheaper supermarkets ;) .. a conscience on wot you eat can work wonders on a diet hehe! As for leather shoes, I was always under the impression that they were a by product of the meat trade? where as fur is a sole product in this particular farming practice. On the stance of fake fur, i tend not to go for that either... it just doesnt rock my boat, particularly when you hear tales of some fake furs being contaminated with furs of cats and dogs from china, poor little mites! Merry Christmas everyone xxx
Every time I go into a shop which happens to be selling fur coats, I always check whether it's fake or real. My mum calls it a weird and strange habit, but I'm always shocked when it does turn out to be real and I'm so disgusted that I never shall set foot in that shop, and never intend to again. People's brain goes out the window and they don't care where it's from, or what animal it even was and how it's been killed, all they think of is buying the coat, whatever the price.
I always make sure i buy from shops that don't use real fur. I don't even really wear fake fur cos it doesn't appeal to me but if you want to wear fur then wear fake, it all looks the same!
i read an article about how people so shamlessly sell and buy real fur. after that every time i saw fur and i could touch it i checked to see if it was real. and if it was and my mum looking at clothes in that department i told her not to buy it.
On a television program, they were talking about fur and when they asked people on the streets, most said they'd wear real fur! I'm horrified and shocked people would only wear fur because it made them look like they were rolling in money, as well as to make people jealous! Those people should be ashamed of themselves, because they sounded like total snobs when they said it. They probably don't even know what horrible treatment the animal has gone though to make that coat and how would they feel if they were the animals about to be killed for their fur? If they saw the story through the animals eyes, I'm sure they'd think before they brought the fur coat.
The fur Trade should be stopped without doubt. I bet if all these models, actors and so called artists, had to skin the animals them selves then they would never wear fur.... wouldnt want blood on their hands would they? well if they wear fur then they already have. Fur is for animals not humans, thats why we have central heating.
I saw the most disturbing and heartbreaking footage of animals being skinned alive years ago and subsequently could not bring myself to watch this program. It made me physically sick and will stay with me for life.
Do not condone or buy fur full stop. People who claim it is OK if it is the by-product of something else cannot be thinking about the consequences of this statement.
At the moment, if we see fur, we know it has more than likely been obtained in a cruel and unjust manner. After all, what part of killing an animal for it's fur, isn't? If we start allowing fur in some cases, how are the consumers supposed to know what fur has been obtained ethically (if there is such a thing!) and who polices this to see that this is truely the case? How long before these practices become corrupt and the consumer is buying what they think is 'ethical' but isn't? There will always be sick individuals who take advantage and get in on the act just as people rip off designers with fake goods and sell counterfeit items. As long as people are there to buy them, the trade/slaughter goes on. Refuse fur completely.
Fur is beautiful - on an animal. Is a person so disgusted with their own skin that they need to hide behind the skin of something else? These people are so ugly, deluded and self absorbed. They are an insult to the human race. I cannot and will never accept fur as ethical in any circumstance. Is is inhumane, immoral and completely wrong.
It's terrible that people just kill the animal - that animal has died so you can wear the coat once and never wear it again. Those animals are suffering and I would like to see the owners in the dogs shoes - how painful must it be? Knowing you're going to die but there is nothing you can do about it, no way to fight back so you just lie there as this horrible, sick treatment is happening all around you. I can't even wear fake fur - it reminds me of the real thing, I can't bear that. This is a reminder that fur is cruelly produced luxury and any celebrities who wear it should be ashamed - anybody for that matter.
I AM DEVASTATED!!! I cannot believe what is happening in this sick world nowadays. I have recenlty learnt a lot about humans. I despise them. We are selfish, vain and insensitive. The words "life" and "dignity" have no meaning today. "I am the most important and nothing else matters" that's out attitude. The animals don't harm us without a reason, without any hazard. I am wondering who gave us the right to decide to use animals for furs, for experiments, for tests, for entertainment. They are innocent creatures and should enjoy their wild life. I read a lot about animals issues every day and I cry....and pray for all this suffering to end. NO FUR!!!!!!
i think fake fur is silly. I also don't like the use of bird feathers on feather things u put round ur neck, i know they are real feathers but why kill a bird for that! Fake fur is an incouragement to those who wear fur. BAN THEM ALL!
clgoh, it's not that people just skin them, like people would take our cothes. They KILL the animal.
I think it is a disgrace. No one should even think about killing something, such as a tiger, especially when they are close to extinction. It is actually disgusting. It should be stopped, no animal should have to go through the pain that they have to go through.
Killing animals for meat/food is one thing, but killing animals to look good? That is just wrong, its along the same lines as animal testing. I would rather never wear make-up etc than have it tested on animals. If the product is for humans, test it on humans!
I adore fashion and i am always keeping up with everying but theres one thing i will not do and tha is wear fur i think its so wrong for a animal to be born just to be killed for someone to have a scarf round their neck i hate it i am such a animal lover and wearing fur just makes feel sick inside
I think its terrible that some people don't have a second thought about killing these lovely animals. I mean, what has that animal ever done to you to make you kill it, skin it and where it! I also hate the idea of fur farms, how could you keep those animals in stinking conditions and then kill them! Its got to stop!
Just the thought of some ars*h*l* killing and skinning an animal makes me feel physically sick. It makes me want to skin the person myself and sell his skin off and see how he likes it.
MILLIONS of animals have died because of HUMANS killing them just to WEAR. It makes me feel ashamed to be the same species as them. Just because we are supposedly "superior" do we have the right to hunt down and kill animals for fashion?
Why buy real fur? You can get perfectly good fake fur. Really I don't see the point in buying real fur, the thought of wearing skin of an animal is just disgusting. Since we are technically animals aswell it would be like killing your next door neighbour and wearing his skin afterwards! Now one of the everyday fur wearers tell me if you'd still want to wear fur after just pictureing that as I expect you all have unwillingly done so. It's not nice is it? Think about tigers fr example, something like 95% of tigers has been wiped out! And some of the reason for that was fur. So there were other reasons aswell like medicine but my point is if the fur industry continues we are going to lose some of the most beautiful animals in the world. and it's not like the demand is going to stop just because the animals are extinct. I am atalking about a span in years here but one ofter the other animals with fur are going to turn to be turned into hats! Just think back to your next door nieghbour, he or she will have family somewhere ans so do these animals! Now that thought is even worse isn't it?
They say beauty is only skin deep and this is true of any person who wears fur, as it is the fur that is beautiful it's a pity they didn't leave it on the beautiful creature. The person inside it is ugly, vain, heartless and evil... not endearing qualities to have...
It is HORRIBLE and totally unnecessary, Maybe, it is slightly more acceptable for people up north in the poles to have worn fur two hundred years ago as they didn't know any better, but surely today, we have the resources and understanding to avoid that!
why wear fur? i mean seriously. WHY? okay, it looks awesome. maybe even on you? but don't you feel that it looks the BEST on the animal itself?
this is what happens, people are jealous and they kill that animal to take their fur off and they wear it themselves. THEY ARE SO THOUGHTLESS.
animals. feel. pain.
animals. are. ALLOWED. to. LIVE. A. HAPPY. LIFE.
animals.. they are really similar to us, you know. yet, we do not skin other people to wear their skin. fur is basically no different. this is so disgusting. fur belongs on the animals themselves. not on people.
I adore animals and the idea of wearing one as a coat makes me sick - only to be worn once and the thrown away is stupid - an animal has died so you could wear the coat and then chuck it away! I see no point in even WEARING the coat - let the animals live!
This was disgusting, I am never going to wear fur, ever. This was horrible, fashion like girogio armani and other couture labels should be ashamed of themselves if they use fur from animals. I bet they don't even realise how it's made, they just put it on their practicallly starving models and throw em down the catwalk, only to be worn ONCE. Can you imagine, being killed for someone's fasion addiction only to be worn ONCE then thrown away just because it is out of fashion???? This world really sickens me, just to lookk good and to show off, people are willing to kill an animal, which like them, has a life, possibly children, and more importantly, a soul.
Don't get me wrong, I'm into following fashion trends and I'm not the only girl, but KILLING the animal just for the fur is wrong! I'm 100 percent NEVER going to buy or wear the fur from an animal - never ever.
I'm horrified myself when I see people wearing the fur that may have been alive two weeks ago - I'm shocked that people don't care about the animals, I mean if you were the animal going to be skinned, you'd be scared to death, wouldn't you? I don't even like faux fur, it reminds me too much of the real thing.
Don't get me wrong i'm in2 fashion just as much as any other girl but there are certain lengths that people go to that i think are wrong and fur is one of them.
it's wrong and i hope that people soon realise that animals get hunted just 2 b turned in2 a coat or a bag... it shouldn't happen.
the onli fur that you should see in shops is faux fur because then at least the fur it's copying is stil on the animal not on you.
I only have a problem with fir coats if the rest of the animal wasnt used for food. If say a mink was killed n skinned you could still use the meat of the animal and it would be a lot better than jst not using the rest of the animal.
Fur should remain where it belongs - on the animals. There is no good reason to buy fur - other than vanity which is a pathetic excuse for animals being tortured and skinned alive. I will never ever wear fur, be it "ethically" sourced or not. A beautiful animal still has to lose its life for this.
amy1707 - the difference between a mink farm and a cow/pig/sheep farm is that the cow/pig farm's primary function is to provide food, the skin is a by-product; the sheep farm - well sheep don't even have to be killed to get their coat for our wool, they just get a hair-cut BUT if we use the skin that is a by-product of the food that is the prime function - mink are not eaten they are killed just for their skin, they are a carnivore and we don't usually eat those as I understand that they taste unpleasant. BUT, there is now a big mink problem in this country as protestors released 1,000s of them into the countryside and they have killed most water birds and animals on many, many waters and are a BIG problem - they are still being killed as they need to be eradicated as an unwanted pest before ALL ducks, grebe, water-vole, etc., etc. are killed by them.
I think that years ago the argument against fur was mainly "Why would you wear another animal's skin?" Or "Fur is murder". And anti-fur protesters got asked "Why are you wearing leather shoes?" But look at the underground and unregulated fur trade now (ten years of millions of animals possibly skinned alive - and yes I've seen the PETA footage and can clearly see why Ralph Lauren dropped fur from their lines after watching it, and why Burberry won't buy fur from China now). We have a new issue guys - it's not just about "Fur is murder" but that "Fur is torture". New problem - because the situation has escalated big time. And people still do not boycott Versace, Gucci, Harrods nor the music of those pop stars who promote the wearing of fur.
I agree with Babycakes...WHY would someone want to wear animal fur? To kill an animal for it's fur is outrageously cruel! I have the RSPCA website as my homepage and a few months ago, the main headline was 'Are you REALLY buying fake fur?' It was trying to tell people that you don't know what you're buying. Dont buy fur full STOP!!
I dont think that people should kill, skin and wear animals, I mean, its gross, why cant people just wear the fake fur. It looks the same so why do people have too have the real stuff, all it does it hurt the animals.
I am most deffinatly against the killing of animals simply for their fur as i think this is a cruel and immoral and simply a waste. However if the rest of the animal is goign to be eaten then i generally dont see the problem. As in the case of sheepskin rugs or rabbit fur coats in the case that the animal meat is eaten i think this is reasonable.
I do believe that if a species is endangered then more precautions should be taken but people need to put it into context.
but, if you think about it, how is a mink farm for fur any different from a sheep/cow/pig farm?? they are both killed for human use.
Personally i wouldnt like a fur coat myself but i think people often jump to conclusions and that there is much to much hype over it.
I am glad to see such a strength of feeling here about the fur trade. I too watched the PETA video and the McCartney programme. After watching both I e-mailed the European Union and the Chinese Embassey. I tried to get hold of the British Olympic team too but failed. The EU have now banned the import of dog and cat skin but sadly the trade continues in other parts of the world. I am haunted by what I saw and the screams of the animals is still inside my head, I doubt it will ever leave.
Never have liked real fur unlesss of course the animals are still wearing it. My views will never change and they are ..... 'Leave the fur where it belongs on the animal'
how can anybody kill such beautiful creatures, me and my partner sat and watched kill it skin it wear it and i couldnt stop crying it was so distressing, what do people get out of it, all they care about is money which is sick. we went ot crete in september and in every shop there were coats ect all made from these beautiful animals, its so wrong but they say they are doing nothing wrong. it needs to be stopped asap.
maisiemouse - sheepskin rugs - I would not want one myself BUT at least the animal from which it came was primarly killed for its meat and the rug is a by-product of that. I don't mind using the skin if I eat the meat (all leather products fall into this category) BUT I object most strongly to killing just for the skin. I also object to raising badly and causing pain at the point of death.
when i went to get a new carpet there was about 7 baskets full of sheepskin rugs. they were all dyied different colours i looked on the underside and saw skin- i said to myself no. i went on a shopping spree with my mates the other day and we saw a window dressed in all sorts of fur and skins. my friends stood in awe while i, in my head imagined what revolting desturbed people could do something so horrible.THIS IS DISCUSTING. IT MUST BE STOPPED.
I think that is the horriblest saying ive eva herd in my life howz this dont even think about killing it dont even think about skining it and dont even think about wearing it mmmmmmmmmmm i think thats much better
In my opinion there is nothing more abhorrent than the suffering of an animal in the name of vanity. People who wear fur disgust me and the treatment of these animals makes me want to cry. Animals are not there for our disposal, this is as much their world as it is ours. Fur clothing is just so unnecessary.
I think it is nightmarous to wear real animal fur, escpecially if it has been killed just for its fur. I have seen things like snake skin bags, all my friends think they look so good, but i own two snakes so it makes me feel sick. I dont understand how people are able to own them. I like it on the movie Ace Ventura where in his own cooky way he also hates fur.
i look at a beautiful animal and cant imagine why anyone would want to kill it for its fur. this is such a monstrous thing to do, as we all have warm clothes and i think fur wearing is a dreadful, cruel and unecessary thing to do, faux fur is just as good as real fur, so come on everybody, lets campaign to stop the fur trade, now!!!!
i think wearing real fur is so wrong, esspecially since fake fur has got so good at replicating the real stuff in the years. i think it is about time stuff like this became illegal. it purelly because people have a chip on there shoulder and want to say "oh no darling, of course its real". that really makes me sick. and people who try to justify there actions by saying that back many many years ago its was normal to wear animal skin as it was all we had. yes that is true. but 1. we have much more caring materials to use now. 2. in those periods we at least used every part of the animal, for our surival as clothes, houses, food, ect ect and so the animal's body was not waisted and just thrown away.
Wearing real fur is sooooo wrong, I've never worn real fur and never will! I propa luv animals and i think wearing fur is disguisting. Animals shouldnt be tortured just for fur collars and stuff y not use fake fur? IT IS THE MOST AWFUL THING TO HEAR AND KNOW THAT ANIMLS ARE DIEING FOR MODELS CLOTHES AND REGULAR PEOPLES CLOTHES!
I think that wearing fur is terrible! I don't even think fake fur should be warn because it gives out the wrong message and people might think it is real fur!
Killing any animal for its fur/skin to make an already ugly person supposedly look more glamorous should be stopped. Wearing a dead animal does not improve your looks. If you are that ugly...try putting a bag over your head...you will certainly look better than wearing a carcass!!
Whilst i dont disagree that the methods that animals are farmed and killed is wrong and often horrendously cruel, i wonder how many people who have posted on here eat meat and weather leather shoes!
Wearing fur is wrong. People like Keira Knightly should stop wearing fur it's abad example to others and it is FAR TOO CRUEL. If people want to wear fur they should wear fake fur. Places like Harrod's should stop selling real fur the methods of getting the fur is repulsive. How would people like it if animals started skinning us and wearing our skin?
did you know that the most common way of buying dog and cat skin items was buying cuddly toys made in China? The Chinese eat dog meat as we eat cow, pig, sheep, etc. BUT the way in which they're kept and killed is one of the mosy truly atrocious things done to animals anywhere in the world AND the world very much turned a blind eye by allowing and watching the Olympics in China - and yes, I watched and cheered team GB on so am guilty. I didn't watch the programme on the fur trade BUT having watched Pedigree Dogs Exposed and knowing how truly biased that was (despite them having hours of film from the KC and breeders about health programmes in many breeds) I no longer trust the BBC to deliver a balanced and factual documentary - so what do we do? where can we go to find out THE TRUTH!?
I do not watch programmes on television that are about people who like wearing fur, whether or not the fur is so called 'ethical'. I do not wear fur at all. I do not wear fake fur or so called 'ethical' fur. I have joined the 'WWF' { The ' World Wildlife Fund For Nature'} and the ' Born Free Foundation'. I have adopted all of the animals with the 'WWF', including a tiger. I have got 'Platinum Member' membership of the 'Born Free Foundation'. I have also adopted two adult female lions and a pack of Ethiopian wolves with the 'Born Free Foundation'. I do not agree with people spending alot of money to wear fur for fashion. I think that wearing fur is cruel and the idea of wearing fur is cruel. I buy merchandise from the 'WWF' and the 'Born Free Foundation' catalogues. I also do not agree with hunting animals, such as lions, for so called 'sport', even if the animals are kept in a place where they are only used for that purpose, I still think that it is cruel. Wolves used to live in the United Kingdom, but they were hunted to extinction. Wild animals, such as the tiger, are now also facing extinction. If people continue to abuse animals for profit for so called fashion and sport, the animals will become extinct in the wild and it is cruel to keep them in captivity, such as in a zoo or a safari park. Some people are upsetting the balance of nature by killing animals, such as predators like the lion and the tiger. They are also causing environmental destruction and climate change because they are chopping down trees and destroying the wild animals environment, such as the Bengal tiger in India. I have met David Attenbourgh and he signed a book for me. I am buying all of his books and DVDs, including 'Planet Earth'. I am watching his programme ' Tiger. Spy in the Jungle' again. They got an elephant to place cameras disguised as tree logs to film a female tiger and her tiger cubs growing up. The female tiger was beautiful where she belonged in the wild and her tiger cubs were very cute. I thought that people joined the 'RSPCA' because they want to stop cruelty to animals. I wanted to join the 'RSPCA' because I wanted to stop cruelty to animals. I think that if a person wanted to stop cruelty to animals they would not support fur. I want to stop cruelty to animals and I do not support fur. I buy and sell raffle tickets for the 'WWF' and the 'Born Free Foundation'. One day, I am going to a another country to see the lions in the wild with the 'Born Free Foundation'.

I think it all is completely wrong! It is not nice to think that people Kill animals just for there fur its like comparing life to money put it that way imagine it people shooting the poor animal which has done nothing at all to deserve being killed. Now I always ask is it leather? or Is it real fur you always need to be cautious and curious to what the product your buying really is.
It's disusting the way some people think that it's ok to kill animals for fur. It's not like there are no other clothes to wear - they're just doing it for the sake of doing it! At the end of the day they know they're dong wrong, but the don't care! Animals can feel pain, but they don't understand why some sad human beings are torturing them! There should be zero tolerance for things like that. They're capturing animals, ripping the skin from them and sometimes they're still alive in unbearable pain! It's horrifying!
I don't even know why people like wearing something that used to be on a LIVE ANIMAL - in these days, if you like that sort of stuff there is something called fake fur! It annoys me so much when i think that some human beings can actually have the nerve to take an animals life for the sake of fashion (which to be honest isn't even that important, aslong as you have clothes!) But then some people actually wear it! o0o0o0o!
But i am happy that there are decent people out there with a bit of sense trying to stop it!
Animals should not be killed for our pleasure! I mean how would you like it if someone came along killed you and turned you into a coat! And the the thought that people walk around showing thier brand new fur coat like the animal was never alive! Well it might feel nice but it feels even better when its on the animal it belongs to!
i think u shouldnt wear fur because animals are killed inhumanely and that is cold blooded MURDER! Humans should just wear clothes that are not involved with killing animals
I would never wear animal fur, and I always check to make sure that it isn't fur if I buy something. I don't know how people could basically wear animals, becuase that's what they are doing. I bet they don't relise it though. It's pointless wearing fur - you might as well wear fake fur.
I recorded the programme but when I watched it I swiched off after a bit as it was far too gory. I already know quite a lot about that sort of thing so I didn't think I was being a wimp. There is so many nice fasions around that don't affect animals, why do we need it?
I did not see the programme however I have seen footage of animals being tortured & skinned alive on the PETA website. This barbaric process is the most horrific, disgusting, unbelieveable thing I have ever witnessed in my life, it brought me to tears and I am continually haunted by the images I have seen. Programmes like this need to be shown frequently, as it is to easy for people to ignore and switch off. They should be shown not just in this country but worldwide, as I do not believe that the majority of people in general know what goes on at these Farms. Some of my friends and family who saw the prgramme certainly thought that the animals were dead before they were skinned, how shocked they were! Why was the plight of these intelligent beautiful animals not highlighted more during the olympics? This was an ideal platform to use the world media to raise awareness. I certainly have no compassion for people who do not show compassion for others including animals. I support the PETA & WSPA anti fur campaigns but what else can be done?
i don't belive it's right to wear animal fur for clothing .We can live without killing animals fasion. If every one works together and dont buy these items this madness will STOP.
lil_los@hotmail.co.uk August 31, 2008 at 7:47 p.m.
how can people look into the eyes of a poor defensless animal and know that they are going to kill it for fashion, i just find these people dispicable. what kind of world are we living in if people can adopt such a cruel view on life! i just do not understand them and i will never bring myself to underestand them! if they took the pain and hurt of those creatures and went through it themselves they would then see the pain, cruelty and torture inflicted upon these animals is terribly wrong!
I didn't watch the programme, but I based my coursework on the fur trade last year. It's truly sick, the lengths that some people will go to because of vanity. Real fur shouldn't be used in fashion, there are so many other materials available as substitutes. I love fashion, but i totally disagree with wearing fur, there is no need for it!!
Why wear fur when there are so many other materials you can wear and look fab in. I can't stand the look of fur as i automatically think - where did that come from. Some poor animal has been killed to make 30cm squared of a fur coat. The poor animals have no way to voice there opinions so we have to do it for them!
I believe like humans were predominately born to have skin, many animals have fur, feather, leather and it is meant to be on the animal not on humans - we can wear man made fibres for warmth, definately not take it from the animals - to kill something for its fur, skin,is barbaric and needs to be stopped completely.
The killing of any animal just for its skin and coat is wrong; the keeping and killing of any animal in an inhumane way is wrong. Our government MUST take firmer action to make sure that no fur from places like China EVER gets to these shores. I'd like to pose a question for all of you vegetarians out there -how do you cope without leather goods? If you don't eat the meat don't wear the skin!! Seems a good enough rule to live by to me. And to those veggies who eat fish (as if that's not an animal) how can you reconcile that when they are just left to suffocate to death in huge vats on board ships.
A fur coat always, but always looks better & fits better on the original owner. Naomi Campbell may think she looks beautiful in fur but to my mind theres nothing uglier than a human wearing the coat of a dead animal for the sake of vanity.
I wear real fur every day, without any cruelty, my lovely cats and dog happily donate (shed) fur for me to wear all time and thats the only way real fur should be worn, by animals enjoying life with a doting human and leaving pressies of fur all over them, the house, their friends or by animals living in the wild. Dead animal furs worn in the so called name of fashion just makes the wearer look like a 1970's prostitute, it looks cheap and nasty and is a very cruel trade. Ban all dead real furs. Real fur only looks good on a living animal.
I didn't see the program but I don't need to! There is no excuse - none. Wearing fur is wrong - anybody remember the old campagn that said it takes 12 dumb bitches to make a coat and only one to wear it. I thought that was perfect. Why did it become socially acceptable to wear it again? My appologies to anybody living in 15ft snow in northern Alaska, maybe I could see the reasoning there but then again if you're reading this get your credit card out and order some synthetics!!
i missed the documentary :( ive also seen the video of animals being skinned alive (this video was filmed in the garden of PETA's HQ - with PETA members killing the animals)
but no fur is 'ethical' never has been and never will be - same goes for leather - its just wrong. animals do not deserve to be treated this way.
fake fur is cheaper and looks just as 'good' as real fur (not that I wear either). skinning an animal is like skinning a human, it's painful and emotionally and physically scarring. animals can still be alive after this and can you even IMAGINE the pain they're going through? I think that before humans do this to animals they should experience the pain and scarring these animals go through.
Skinning Animals is disscusting and is truley animal cruelty!!! I had to do a debate about animal crulety at school and the things i found out made me angry and sad! Why can't people just leave animals alone its like killing another human and when young children kill their pets its training and promoting the killing and crulety towards humans! ;(
Ethical fur is a misnomer, an oxymoron even, when it is considered that all fur production is for pure profit and idle pleasure. I've seen dozens of cases of fur and food production in Chinese and Korean fur farms and dog meat markets, but they seem to slip out of the public conscience as quickly as they they arrive. China still gets away with selling things like toy mice meant for cats, yet ironically made from cat fur, but still people trade with China on a massive scale with no questions asked. It boils down to economics, they won't boycott China because they think they can't afford to.
i seen a video, and it showed animals still alive after they have been skinned!!!!!!!!!!! my heart bleeds for these poor animals. how can people be so cruel, my mind is scarred with these pictures they give me nightmares. i don't no how people can promote this by wearing fur have these people not seen what happens? i would never wear fur and would not accociate with people who accepted it.
I couldn't bring myself to watch this program I seen the advert and that broke my heart. Wearing fur is cruel and not needed, humans call themselves civilized yet they cause animals such pain.
I could not bring myself to watch the programme, but I admire those who could as it needs to be addressed promptly. I am an avid animal lover and cannot bear to think of the suffering the animal must go through for someone to wear it because it is "fashionable". There is absolutely no need for it, animals fur was created for them specifically, to keep them warm and waterproof them. Human beings who wear real fur must have no feelings or conscious at all, and no right to have this on them, they are clearly mising a heart, to me it just shows what horrible people they actually are. If I saw someone being horrible to an animal I would do the same to them - animals are beautiful defenceless creatures who deserve to be free to live in their own habitat in safety not in fear of their skins being taken from them. I am utterly appalled that some human beings are so unkind, it makes me lose faith in the human race to be quite honest, thank goodness for the lovely people who sign up here, it puts some faith back into you. We need to stop this hideously cruel process - right now!
Yes i remember a model shown dragging fur and blood all over the cat walk, it was a very powerful statement and attracted alot of attention. But now Models and cat walks and more obsessed with the fashion side of it all now, i think as time goes by people care less and less aslong as they make money. If people stop buying fur such vasts amounts of it will stop being produced and more animals will survive.
It makes me both angry and sad to see a practice which we thought was pretty much in the past, is now becoming acceptable again. Is there no end to hyman stupidity and vanity? Perhpas we should revive the old campaign with the model dragging a fur behind her, leaving a trail of blood. Does anyone else remember it or am I the oldest person on the forum?
I missed it =/ but i did see it advertised. What was the reason for putting it on the tv anyway? To make people wear fur? As everyone can agree theres really no point in fur, apart from keeping animals nice and snugg and alive, we really don't need fur for fashion to look like we have money or whatever. We have other clothing which makes us look good and everything. But what would people say if we were to skin a human and put it on an animal?
I watched the programme and I was shocked about what I saw. I don't wear fur and Iv always check that if there is fur on clothing that it is Fake Fur not real fur. After watching the programme it made me wonder how people could wear fur knowing that the animal was cruely treated and in most cases tortured. I then learnt that some people skin the animals alive and that made me feel sick how somebody could treat a animal like that. The pain that the animal must have to go through must be excruciating. And no animal deserves to go through it. I'm glad that the programme was done because now people who watched it know where the fur comes from and hopefully people may start to reliase that using fur for fashion is wrong.
I have just read the news section on the British Fur website, and they claim that killing animals such a fur seals for their skins is necessary in order to keep the population down and keep fish stockks from dwindling.
Am i the only one who gets totally infuriated when people who support fur say that killing for fur is important for 'keeping the population of certain animals down'? Who are we to play God like that? Animals were put on this earth with the right to flourish, just as humans were. I do not believe that humans should hold themselves higher than animals and begin to meddle with their continuity. I am totally, and utterrly disgusted by the fur trade. I condemn anyone who wears real fur and can only wish that eventually, something will be done to save those poor animals, who are being controlled and mistreated, from a truly dispicable and undeniably unnecessary death. The point is it is just too easy for people to ignore animal support websites, or Tv documentaries, they can just switch over and pretend that they never saw them.
If there is any hope for us generate enough support to save the animals, there has to be a better way to promote the true disgrace of the fur trade, even if shock tactics have to be used, I say use them. It has to be worth a try.
I saw this advertised on tele and could not believe they was actually showing this on tele. And the woman on it, she is soo ignorant. i strongly disagree with wearing fur, ins not humane at all. Killing an innocent animal so someone can think they look good in a fur coat. its absolutley horrendous. Should be stopped. when people realise this isnt fashion, its not humane. it will stop. we hope.
I am completley against using animals for fur however i do think that wearing leather shoes or a leather coat and eating meat isnt that different.
There is no difference from buying cheap meat where the animal has had an awful life and has been kept in cruel and disgusting conditions to going out and buying a fur coat. Both animals would of been kept and killed for a product.
It is impossible to imagine that humans can be so cruel towards animals. No animal deserves to die so painfully. In fact it is the need created by the fashion markets that fuels this trade. When people completely stop buying fur, this cruelty will end.
I watched kill it, skin it, wear it. It was disgusting and cruel. What they do to these poor animals is unfair and not right! people that buy fur are making this trade carry on and more animals have to suffer, dogs in Chinese film footage were beying skinned alive! foxes were kept in cages there whole lifes with no vetinary attention and some very in seriously dangerous conditions, one even chewed of the bottom of his leg with stress. this has got to stop now, all the animals that are slatured in the most awful way, just for a fur coat.
I missed the programme, but saw the trailer. Most of the images in the trailer I had seen previously, but I am glad I missed the programme because it would have left me in an absolute rage. Animals should never be treated inhumanely for any reason, even for food, but it is particularly sickening to see them tortured for fashion. Fur belongs on the back of the animal who was born with it - nowhere else, and until people get this message, the fur trade will flourish. Fur from China is routinely mislabelled, and the only answer is not to buy fur. If it looks fake but you are not sure, don't buy it. The media could help a lot more by screening more programmes like this. Show the graphic images, show them on prime time TV and if necessary show them again and again until people get the message. Lots of people genuinely do not know this sort of cruelty exists, and unless they went trawling the internet, they would never know. How about a programme about the side of China we weren't shown in all the glitzy footage from Beijing. Show the Chinese trade in fur and meat up for what it is, barbaric and inhumane, and leave the civilised nations in absolutely no doubt what they are buying and where it originated. We will only end the fur trade by killing the demand, by making it unfashionable to be seen in a fur coat. So called celebrities wearing fur should be challenged about it by the public who made them what they are. I have never bought fur and would not buy it in a million years. I always make some comment such as "nice cat" to anyone I see in a fur coat. I don't try to be offensive, just to make them think. Glad so many of you feel as I do, but it's the rest out there who bother me!
when i watched this it mad me so angry i felt so useless i felt like going to all them animals and bringing them home into a warm place it makes me sick to think that people could even consider doing that to animals animals are so friendly i have two cats myself and i wouldnt let them go through that for anything ever since i saw it i cant get it out of my head sometimes i sit down and cry an di watched gordon ramsay and they went over to france and chose a horse to slaughter i mean that is over the top it makes me so upset to even think of it it has to be stopped if there so desparate to wear fur they can wear fake
OMG, i have just been looking on the wonderous facebook for groups to join to support working towards stopping the fur trade and i came across this site: http://www.britishfur.co.uk/main/news i espically could not believe it when i read the education tab for understanding fur.. Now am i just reading this with wonky eyes, or is this site actually saying that its ok to kill for fashion? can not believe what i have just read!
YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS! China produces 85% of the fur on the planet and has no animal welfare laws to protect animals. Fur animals in China suffer one of the most cruel and savage practices ever heard against defenseless beings. The hideous cruelty is hidden from consumers who may not know that each fur article comes with an unimaginable amount of agony. All this in the name of fashion.
The Swiss Animal Protection Agency's investigators found shocking footage from an investigation into the Chinese dog and cat fur industry which revealed the slaughter of millions of dogs and cats: Bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and strangled with wire nooses so that their fur can be turned into trim and trinkets. Their fur is often mislabeled as that of other animals and exported into the U.S, the European Union, and other countries, where it may be sold to unsuspecting customers. If buying fur products has not put you off then Go to:- www.antifursociety.org.
I would not associate my self with any one who wears fur" whether there family or friends...Shame them all, get the message out there!
I'm glad i can actually talk about it with people. i just feel like i want to go to the Chinese fur farms and let all the animals run away from the cages.
I also watched the programme last night & I was shocked at what I saw. I couldn’t get the image of the fox out of my head. I also really feel that this programme should be shown on BBC1 at prime time. Having lived in Germany for several years (where most people wear fur ) it had started to become acceptable to me, and I could almost understand why people wore it in the extreme cold winters, but last nights TV programme was a reality check. Its not acceptable in any country under any circumstances. I do honestly believe that 99% of people who choose to wear fur are ignorant to what goes on in these fur farms and if they did know I’m sure most of them wouldn’t wear it. But how do we raise awareness?? What can I do as an individual, because I do want to do something?
I watched some bits of this programme although I had tried to avoid it as I knew enough of what goes on. the ghastly truth is that humans think they have the automatic right to treat animals as they see fit. I could never wear fur, even if animals are farmed and killed humanely, which I doubt, how would people then distinguish between legally and illegally gained pelts, but I think we have no right to inflict such pain and suffering on the other inhabitants of this world, and I hope that these people are eventually caught and prosecuted. As for the Danish trader who said that he couldn't care less where his pelts came from, I hope he rots in hell.
The British Government has got to do something here or ordinary citizens like me are going to start shooting these bastard chinese people ourselves. This programme should be shown at prime time and people asked to watch it through. Its the only thing that we can do to bear testament to the suffering of these poor animals. So come on RSPCA DO something and get this situation stopped now. People have to understand what this trade is really all about
I have never been so horrified in my entire life i have not been able to get that image out of my head all day of that poor fox blinking its eye lashes which was the only fur it had left, it is the most horrendous thing i have ever seen in my life, i have not been able to concentrate at all at work all day, i am such a huge animal lover and i really dont think i will ever get over those poor animals i really want to do something to help, i am in tears just writing this and i saw that programs last night!
I too, watched the C4 programme last night and was completly shocked by what i saw, i forced myself to watch the 2nd half of the documentry in hope that there was some kind of positive spin on the issue but alas there was not. I simply can not comprehend why some ppl treat animals in this way, put simply its disgusting! But what can be done to stop this awful trade? when celebrities are endorsing this ever growing "trend".
I watched this programme last night against my better judgement, as I cried for hours afterwards. The footage of the fur farm in China was truly horrific, and the image of the fox skinned alive lifting it's head will haunt me for a long long time. People like Jennifer Lopez and Madonna should be forced to go to the PETA website and watch the video in full so they can see exactly where their "luxurious" fur coats came from. I can't believe that this barbaric trade has been allowed to continue into the 21st century. But then, China has the most horrendous human rights record, so why would they care about animals and their welfare? I can't believe that anyone would wear fur after watching this programme, as they would never truly know how much the animal had suffered in the supposed name of "fashion".
I had no idea there was such a market for fur these days, certainly not in the 'civilised' west. That was the first documentary to make me cry, feel sick and angry all in one go. It made me want to go and punch Madonna in the face for wearing that coat. Celebrities lead fashion and send out a message to the world that it's okay to wear fur. If 80% of the world's fur is coming from China, and there are no international welfare regulations, of course the designers are just buying the cheapest fur they can get. The furs from tortured animals, skinned alive. That footage shocked me more than anything I've ever seen. Made me ashamed to be human. What an evil species we are. How can we stop this?
I have come to realise just how very ignorant these people are. Who in their right mind would be prepared to allow animals to suffer in such inhumane, disgustingly cruel ways so that they can wear a fur coat?? It is insane!
These animals are treated in such a way that anybody who chooses to wear fur should be totally ashamed of themselves; they call themselves human??
It is so sad to see that the 'Admired Bunch' are setting the fur look right back on trend again. . . J-Lo, Kate Moss etc are revamping the fur look and in doing so are continuing to keep the animal slaughter toll very high. Hope you are proud of yourselves girls.
What an absolutely rediculous thing to do when you are at such a height in fashion; i hope you eventually get to see some of the footage that had so many of us crying last night.
But then i guess that raises another question: do people like you even have a heart?
For everybody who stands their ground and will not wear fur, nor support the trade in any way... WELL DONE! It is us who are keeping the animal slaughtering numbers down (as much as we can) and we who should feel proud of the fact that we are not total hair heads who put fashion over and above humanity.
i watched it too last night, but the thing i found most annoying is how she thought it was acceptable to kill in places like denmark and canada(woordlands)because it was 'humane'. Firstly in denmark they are put into a machine that is all we know. she shouldn't of come to a conclusion without actually seeing the death. She also said that they dont have to see each other die. Well, thats not true they probably will inside that enclosed machine. Also, she did it again, in the canadian woodlands, they killed a beaver. I thought that was porbably the worst. It was drowned trying to survive for 20 minutes, trying to bite the trap.Im sure if she saw the death she would of done something.
Everyone found it shocking in the chinese fur farms because we saw how it was killed and the tortured, which is terrible but i would of liked a better comparison by actually WATCHING this other animals die to decide if it is humane.
I am absolutly horrified, all i can see when i look at my animals faces as they look up at me our the tortured faces of the animals that appeared on the programe" I new this is what goes on-and have had my say about it before" hopefully thro this programe more and more people will see what happends to the poor animals in order for them to have a coat"...Makes me sick and very Angry every time i see a woman in a fur coat or with an item made ov fur...(I like it better on the animal)and thats were it should stay. These people that do this to the animals have NO hearts NO feelings NO NOTHING". And if i can stop just ONE animal from going thro this suffering it would mean the world to me! Even if i could ov put that poor animal that was skinned out misery i would do so...how long do they lay there skinless, raw and in pain? What help can you do but to help end there suffering from the hands of barbaric head cases...Any one that hurts an animal when i am around want to watch out".
I watched this programme and it was horrific. Anyone who wears fun should be made to watch the video of animals being skinned alive. Those images will haunt me forever. What can be done to help stop this evil torture? Who do we have to petition? What can be done? This was not comfortable viewing but people need to be made aware of the reality. The presenter said she was happy to wear beaver fur as she thought the way it was killed was ok. That is because she didn't see it drown and fight for life.
It's the hypocrisy that gets me. A society that uses media and government to promote an "environmentally friendly" populace, where I wake up every morning to find a new litter bin in my front garden...and yet no one seems to be doing anything about these abhorrent practices, all for the sake of fashion. We do not need fur...but for the sake of compromise, the mink farms in Denmark were reasonably acceptable. The animals have no quality of life, but as Merilees said, our farming practices are much worse, so we need to clean up our own act first. At least the animals were killed in a humane manner. Anything else, whether it be buying fur from trapped animals in America, or God forbid, fur from animals skinned alive in China, is an abomination. Everything is about money. Promoting being kind to the environment is all about money, it's all a joke. Nothing will be done for these poor animals because there is no way to save them, and make money. We can recycle and do whatever else, because pretty much guaranteed, someone, somewhere is making money out of it. As a species, we have a history of animal cruelty. We think ourselves better than animals, more enlightened and intelligent. In truth we are worse - we know what we're doing is wrong and we do it anyway. And who wears the fur? WAGS and similar, who on the whole contribute sooo much to society and the advancement of the species as a whole. It makes me sick, but money talks and I can't see anything changing
I have seen many of the images and videos shown before as i feel it is important to be aware of the either illegal or in-humane trades that involve animals. They are some of the most horrific and upsetting that i have ever come across. It pains me to know that this is happening right now and that it is unlikely to stop any time soon. People who involve themselves in this trade are pure evil, the ones who wear it just as much as the ones that murder the poor defensless animal. As a vegetarian i see no need whatsoever to use an animal for anything other than companionship, or to enjoy within its own natural habitat.
I am watching the program at the moment and i feel it is the most in-humane thing i have ever seen. The worst part was when the farmer took the fox and hit it repetedly on the ground. I think its sick and as i have always said, treat others (including animals) as you wish to be treated. So i suppose they want to be treated like the animals are being treated. Well im first in line to do the same to them.
There can never be a justification for the destruction of an animal - be it cruelly or what they call 'humane' for fur. It is completely unnecessary. I think we have become accustomed to the idea that eating meat is ok, but for me now that is becoming an issue, I buy from 'farm assured' sources but still do we ever really know how the animals are treated? I've heard horrific neglect stories around organically produced meat. Hopefully we can raise awareness and disgust as a result of these kind of programmes and in time people will awaken and feel the pain of the animals and realise how wrong this fur trade and in-humane agriculture is.
I think wearing fur is disgusting. I feel uncomfortable eating meat and try to eat as little as possible but at least I can understand why people do it. It is part of the food chain after all, we were meant to eat meat but wearing fur isn't part of any food chain. The way they farm it is really awfull and there is much more animal friendly trends around. They ought to ban it!
If you show me any model or so called 'Supermodel' wearing fur against the animal wearing it, freely running round alive and doing whatever it does naturally there is only one winner and it isnt overpaid, overhyped model. I have no problems with anyone kiiling an animal for food and survival purposes such as indiginous / tribal people as they use every last sinew and have done so long before we so called 'civilised' society have been around. Even so called modern day hunters, i.e those who shoot rabbits, pigeons etc for food waste so much its not fair and not right. I do eat meat, but i am pretty sure that every part of the animal is used. Not as our ancestors used them, but the meat for food, skin for clothing and the leftover / offal for animal food or whatever, not just skinned for its coat. (Apologies for being graphic)
I would never buy a real fur coat. I love animals and to kill them just for their fur is dumb. And I even hate to think about it. I almost start crying when I think about it and its sad. I hate it when people miss treat animals.

The models and wags who humiliate themselves by wearing fur, and although they look glamorous, shouldn't feel it inside. How they can wear the coat without feeling guilty, I wonder .....

Personally i have no problem with wearing fur. (wait let me say my point)
Origionally before civilisation when tribes were the main group of people, the hunts men would go out to the wild and kill an animal then bring it home.

NO FUR!!!!!!

clgoh,
it's not that people just skin them, like people would take our cothes.
They KILL the animal.
I think it is a disgrace.
No one should even think about killing something, such as a tiger, especially when they are close to extinction. It is actually disgusting. It should be stopped, no animal should have to go through the pain that they have to go through.

How would you like it if someone strip you off your clothes all in a sudden and leave you there naked?
This is exactly what humans who take animal fur to make clothings.
I am fine with faux ones as personaly I feel that animal fur clothes are gorgeous and its an art by God.
And God (not to be religious take it as Mother Nature) made them to protect animals from weather conditions.
If you do not want people to strip you naked then dont strip the animals naked either!

I have one thing to say about wearing fur...
IT SHOULD BE BANNED!!
Killing animals for meat/food is one thing, but killing animals to look good? That is just wrong, its along the same lines as animal testing. I would rather never wear make-up etc than have it tested on animals. If the product is for humans, test it on humans!

I mean, what has that animal ever done to you to make you kill it, skin it and where it!
I also hate the idea of fur farms, how could you keep those animals in stinking conditions and then kill them!

DISGUSTING.

It is HORRIBLE and totally unnecessary, Maybe, it is slightly more acceptable for people up north in the poles to have worn fur two hundred years ago as they didn't know any better, but surely today, we have the resources and understanding to avoid that!

some people are disgusting.
why wear fur? i mean seriously. WHY? okay, it looks awesome. maybe even on you? but don't you feel that it looks the BEST on the animal itself?
this is what happens, people are jealous and they kill that animal to take their fur off and they wear it themselves. THEY ARE SO THOUGHTLESS.

I am haunted by what I saw and the screams of the animals is still inside my head, I doubt it will ever leave.

maisiemouse - sheepskin rugs - I would not want one myself BUT at least the animal from which it came was primarly killed for its meat and the rug is a by-product of that. I don't mind using the skin if I eat the meat (all leather products fall into this category) BUT I object most strongly to killing just for the skin. I also object to raising badly and causing pain at the point of death.

i think it is about time stuff like this became illegal.
it purelly because people have a chip on there shoulder and want to say "oh no darling, of course its real".
that really makes me sick.
and people who try to justify there actions by saying that back many many years ago its was normal to wear animal skin as it was all we had. yes that is true.
but
1. we have much more caring materials to use now.
2. in those periods we at least used every part of the animal, for our surival as clothes, houses, food, ect ect and so the animal's body was not waisted and just thrown away.

did you know that the most common way of buying dog and cat skin items was buying cuddly toys made in China?

I have joined the 'WWF'
{ The ' World Wildlife Fund For Nature'} and the ' Born Free Foundation'.

Real fur only looks good on a living animal.

fake fur is cheaper and looks just as 'good' as real fur (not that I wear either).
skinning an animal is like skinning a human, it's painful and emotionally and physically scarring.
animals can still be alive after this and can you even IMAGINE the pain they're going through?
I think that before humans do this to animals they should experience the pain and scarring these animals go through.

This programme should be shown at prime time and people asked to watch it through. Its the only thing that we can do to bear testament to the suffering of these poor animals.
So come on RSPCA DO something and get this situation stopped now.

Keep up the good morals everyone!

i watched it too last night, but the thing i found most annoying is how she thought it was acceptable to kill in places like denmark and canada(woordlands)because it was 'humane'.

Absolute tragedy.
